#1  "What Software Do You Use For The Backup And Restore?"

Well in something like this the robustness of the method is critically important - however equally as important is the reassurance of knowing you are dealing with a large stable organisation with a proven track record. This is not an area for experimentation.

So we decided to use a solution from a company called Iron Mountain. Iron Mountain Incorporated is a $1.5 billion turnover and Fortune 1000 company established in 1951. Its business is 'outsourced records and information management services' - it looks after your data. Iron Mountain has a subsidiary company called Connected, its business is automated data backup and recovery. Connected Corporation supplies solutions to 16000 organisations including 600 corporates e.g. Visa, Schlumberger, Cisco, Boeing and Grant Thornton.

We partner with Connected through our UK affiliate Backup Direct.

Put simply this means that the backup solution is proven, robust, secure, used by massive corporations and supported by professionals.

#2  "How Does It Actually Work?"

We're not going to tell you technically how it works, however we are going to tell you about some really smart features and give you more reassurances and later - we are going to let you try it.

The software has the following key features:

  • Fast, easy, secure and fully automated data protection with Backup/Retrieve: hands-off PC backup and easy file restoration. It works.
  • Incremental backup. The system is clever and only backs up what has been changed. This means that the first backup may well take a long time but subsequent backups will be quick.
  • Unique Email Optimiser backup for protecting data contained within Outlook files, allowing efficient backup whilst Outlook is running.
  • Rapid, anytime/anywhere system rollback due to virus damage, user error, displaced workers, and lost or stolen computers with Heal.
  • 128-bit encryption: the industry standard for secure transmission of files encrypts data in transit and in archive - until you restore it on your PC; this ensures complete system state/data protection and full - and immediate - disaster recovery
  • Retrieval of backed up files from any web browser anywhere with iRoam™
  • The data is also encrypted when stored with us - so only you can see it.

Your data is stored in two highly secure data centres

Your data needs to be safe once it is backed up and only highly redundant, reliable and secure data centres will suffice. This is why through our partner we use two data centres actively mirroring each other. As your data is backed up, it is instantly copied to the second data centre. Each is hardened for physical and logical security with multiple connectivity providers into each one. The result for you is:

  • Data is extremely unlikely to be compromised by a freak event
  • It is virtually impossible for a human being (outsider) to access protected data
  • Under all circumstances your data will be recoverable when and as fast as you need it.

#3  "Can I Try It?"

Yes you can - that is you can try the backup and restore software. Remember the Plan For Surprises package covers a range of products necessary for you to fully protect your business. The key components are:

- the backup and restore software
- the preconfigured machine, permanently on standby
- the template Business Continuity Plan
- any consultancy element that after discussion you may feel is appropriate

We are offering you a 15 day free trial for you to decide for yourself whether this is for you. This is a full working copy of the software. You should however bear in mind that the software may well need configuring and you might need assistance in configuration. We offer this as part of our service but only after you have signed up.

Click here to try the software now - we will ask you for some basic details and then will email you a link to download the software.

"If You Want Us To Do More"

Using our structured questionnaire we will discuss your business, your data and what you are want to achieve.  We will agree a plan with you, log on remotely to your system and configure your backup for you.

We will also provide you with a Business Continuity Plan template and talk you through the plan, how to complete it, and provide you with secure online storage.

There is an additional one-off setup cost to you for this service of  £200+VAT.

If you also wish us to keep a preconfigured machine always ready for you - and we very strongly recommend you at least consider this option - the cost of this will depend on the type of machine needed and the work involved in setting up. A typical example of software you might want us to store in this way is your accounts package, including say invoicing, payroll and stock. We are able to support the leading UK packages in this area, namely Sage Line 50, Sage MMS, Pegasus Opera II and Opera for Windows as well as Quickbooks.
